You’ll need a screwdriver and a bag of different sized washers before you begin.

First off you need to isolate the water supply and turn it off, normally there is a valve under the sink which is connected to a pipe that runs up to your tap. You should have two pipes and two vales, one for your hot water and one for your cold. You should turn both valves to the left using e screwdriver and then run both taps until e water stops which shouldn’t take that long.

To replace a tap washer you need to remove the caps of both taps to reveal a screw underneath, you then proceed to remove which will then allow you to life off the tap itself. There should be a nut which you then also remove using the adjustable spanner, this should allow you to remove the head gear assembly which should have a washer around it. There should be wear and tear on the washer which will give you an indication to which tap is leaking, you then replace the faulty washer (you may as well replace the other one while you’re at it) and then fit it all back together in the same way in which we took it apart.

How To Replace A Kitchen Or Bathroom Tap

To start off you will need to get yourself the following items, you’ll need a screwdriver, an adjustable spanner and a cloth. You’ll also be happy to know that fitting a tap has got a lot easier over the years as manufacturers make there designs more easy and less complex.

First off you need to look for an isolation ball valve which is normally on the type(s) in the cupboard below the sink itself. It’s should look like a screw in the middle of the pipe which you turn to your left using the screwdriver we grabbed earlier. Once you have done this run the taps until the water trapped in them has passed through and then go back into the cupboard where the valve were.

This is where we start to replace the taps. Above the valves we just switched off (you may just have one valve and one pipe) there should be a nut which you should now remove using the adjustable spanner. There should also be a nut and bolt below the work surface that secures the tap in place, remove that and pull the tap up from above and remove the tap and pipes completely.

Now you can fit your brand new one supplied by us with everything you need to simply drop in back in the place of the old one by reversing the process of taking out your old one.
